Cognitive Domain
A young person’s understanding of how, why and and when they move.
Content Knowledge and Reasoning
Students will receive the opportunity to describe their own and others’ strengths and weaknesses or the strengths and weakness of an opponent’s tactics and strategy e.g. during a half time team talk in a rugby league game. We also provide opportunity to understand that there are physical, mental and social benefits by participating in physical activity and school sport.
Creativity
Opportunity to create a performance e.g. trampolining routine or a solution to a challenge with a game situation. Hull Active Schools, through the School Games, provides additional opportunities for cultural creativity via medal design, oath writing and banner design competitions.
Perceptual Awareness
Recognising patterns of play or predicting opponent’s strategies in competitions allows our program to enhance the perceptual awareness of young people. An example of this could come in a game of new age kurling when positioning stones in a tactical way to disrupt opponents methods and play.
Rules
The ability to follow written and unwritten rules of sport is transferable across all walks of life. We enforce rules as directed by each governing body of sport but also stress the importance of etiquette i.e putting the ball out of play in football in the event of an injury to an opponent. Opportunities to demonstrate the School Games Values are provided through our events to make the experience ALL young people a positive and pleasant one. Sometimes these values can impact the style and format of an event as a way to make it explicitly clear to students what we expect from them.
Safety and Risk
Opportunity to develop awareness of health and safety and to assessing risk during match play or pre/post event. Through leadership opportunities we provide students with the responsibility to;
check for hazards on a pitch or court prior at the start of play,
enforcing the rules of the game to ensure safety of themselves and others,
suggest rule changes to include others and all players
Strategy, Planning and Tactics
The Hull Active Schools program always ensures the opportunity to devise tactics and strategies during individual and team competitions to overcome opponents or find solutions to a problem.
