CHALLENGE OVERVIEW
The Yorkshire Wolds Way is a 79 mile (127 km) walking route in the chalk landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds. The National Trail wends through some of the most tranquil and gentle countryside in England. From the banks of the mighty Humber estuary, the Way finishes on the dramatic headland of Filey Brigg.
Hull Active Schools are inviting schools to take part and complete our ‘virtual’’ challenge either as class/year groups or as individuals. Schools must register their interest on www.yourschoolgames.com website.
All schools registered will receive certificates and additional guidance to ensure a successful delivery within school. Please download our virtual Wolds Way recording sheets to display at your school and keep track of your students progress. Schools have two delivery options to take part virtually;
Complete the virtual Wolds Way challenge as a full distance i.e. children must complete a total of 79 miles! A huge challenge but one we are sure many young people in Hull can complete.
Complete the virtual Wolds Way Challenge as an activity log i.e. children must complete 79 different periods of physical activity e.g. walking to school, taking a dog for a walk, family bike ride, PE lessons etc. etc.
Top Tips!
Promote via social media and on your school website! This type of virtual challenges is perfect for engaging the wider school community. It would set an example for all students if STAFF complete the challenge too.
Incorporate the challenge into existing PE lessons i.e. Wolds Way Top Up time at the start or end of each lesson to form wither a warm up or cool down. What about setting as an active travel competition?
Create your own bespoke running route on your playground or playing fields. This could become part of the whole challenge for the students. Using basic measuring equipment i.e Trundle Wheel and Chalk!
